Karl Zigler and Julio Natta are the researches in the field of chemistry and technology of high molecular compounds
Karl Zigler is an organic chemist. In Heidelberg he began to study free radicals that are the chemical compounds containing unpaired electrons. Later he developed the methods of polyethylene polymerization for which he got world recognition. In 1952 with his co-workers he detected that nickel prevents the polymerization reaction. And they found that zirconium is an element which doesn’t hinder these reactions and even catalyzes the ethylene polymerization.
Julio Natta with co-workers developed the method of propylene polymerization.
He made the radiography and electron diffraction research of polypropylene.
And he drew the conclusion that owing to the catalyst of Zigler the polypropylene had side chain situated on one side of the molecule.
In 1963 Natta and Zigler got the Nobel Prize for making the discoveries in the field of chemistry and technology of polymers.
